December 30, 2018 - Tangier Island

This Sunday's lunch destination:  Tangier Island.  The weather was excellent.  Not too cold, a very high overcast, light winds, and as we would find, smooth air.  My son Joe was flying with me; his first time in the RV.

Here Tom/Rachel taxi out in the Maule.  Chuck taxiis out in the Socata.  Including mine, we would have a total of six planes.   Because a couple of planes needed fuel, we decided to all meet over at Cambridge.

On the way to Cambridge, I spotted Rich & Nhu-An in the Decathelon so I went over to take their picture.

And they took this nice one of me.  You can see the Bay Bridge in the background center.

A close-up of Joe and I.

On the ground at Cambridge, watching Steve taxi by in the nose-wheel Maule.  Walt's Husky is on the right.

Steve and Chuck getting gas for the Maule and Socata.

This couple prepares to fly their Trike across the Bay to their home base at St. Mary's.  They were all bundled up, but still, flying an open-air Trike in late-December ....

All six aircraft taxiing for takeoff.  I was last in line.

Following the Husky.

Flying over one of the remote island towns of the Eastern Shore.

Still following the Husky.

That's Tangier Island, dead ahead.

A better look at the island on downwind.  We would be landing on runway 02.

Safe on deck.  We paid our $10 landing fee, and then headed into town.

In a few minutes we were seated in Lorraines.  Here Tom talks with another Maule driver.

Rich, Nhu-An, Walt and Eric having fun at table 8.

After a delicious lunch, the happy crowd outside Lorraine's:  Steve, Chuck, Tom, Rachel, Joe.

Who knew?

We took the scenic walk around the island.

Father and daughter walk out to their ride.

Chuck, Steve and Mark walk out to their rides.

I took off first and orbited the island wiating for Steve to take off.

Then I joined up on him.  He took this great picture of me approaching over Tangier Island.

A close-up over by Crisfield.

Further out.

A good picture of Steve's Maule in flight.

Joe took this picture while I was doing a crossunder.

And from the other side.

It was very pretty over the Blackwater Swamp in late afternoon.

The lighting made for some good shots.

I crossed over to the west side so I didn't have to look into the sun while flying wingman.

We overtook another airplane and it turned out to be Chuck in the Socata.

Chuck had this nifty little video camera and he's using it here.

Passing by the Bay Bridge.

Baltimore is lit up in the center of the picture.

And so ended a great aviation day.
